Show A Real Interest In Others…You Never Know…

by Anne on August 12, 2012

I felt inspired to write this post because because of a personal experience…it’s not H1, H2 or H3′d up of seo’d. I just felt the need to get this out and really explain…

Every morning (when term time) I take my kids to school, and this particular morning…and I have 3 kids under seven, so I’m usually doing a mad dash to get out of the playground before they get too excited and it all gets out of hand LOL! Anyway, this particular morning I decided to slow it down a little and I said ‘Hi’ to one of the mums. I asked her how she was and she responded with silence but with a look that told me that everything wasn’t okay.

Now, I’ve always known this mum as someone who has it all together and for whom life is going good…and without going into too much detail, she told me she needed to create an additional income super quick. So, there in the middle of the school playground, I gave her options. I told her what I’m doing. Now, to my suprise, she didn’t have a clue that this whole ‘internet marketing/MLM’ thing existed! Which also made me think how much we take for granted that there’s a whole bunch of people out there who haven’t heard about it either, but given the opportunity, would take a closer look…

So, we chatted a little longer and she said she definitely wanted to take a look and that she would love the idea of beoming self-employed. We booked a meeting and I’ll be visiting her to give her all the relevant information.

Anyway, the moral of the story is:

  • Take the time to show an interest in people and I mean really ask the how the are, because outer apperances can be extremely deceiving.

Here’ s a random video I did on the subject of ‘having a heart’ in this business.

If I’d been on my normal dash, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to help someone out that really needed it at that point in time. In the words of Dale Carnegie:

So, no links, opt in form, or any other call to action…just food for thought ;D

This is always a good way to look at things. You never know who will need what we have. Talking to people and being interested in them can lead to many opportunities to help them.

Love it – this is so true, just by taking more time to look around and notice what is going on for other people and not keeping the assumptions we have in our heads about people – magic can happen and we find a way to open a door for someone who was feeling locked in!

Hi Kim, exactly. We have to step out of what’s going on for us and invest an interest in others.

Anne, your comments are very true. We tend not to communicate with people in modern society, yet when we do, good things can happen

Good post/video Anne. I agre, whether it is on or offline, it is all about relationships…and if you are faking that, then people will see through you. You need to truly be interested in others and helping others achieve their goals.

Building relationships and listening to others are vital tools in business. Naturally we make assumptions that someone is okay and does not need the opportunity. Except one is a mind reader, one could be wrong. It is better show interest in others – you never know.

Brilliant tip, Anne, and certainly reinforces the need for us all to get off the computer from time to time, get out in the fresh air and meet people! As you said, if you were there but didn’t interact it wouldn’t have happened, not would it have happened had you not been there at all. It’s probably much easier for someone with responsibilities outside of their home to get out, but we don’t always interact with others when we do that.

Enjoy the journey.
